JSMN is a 20-year-old STL femcee who has created a new wave of pretty, poetic rap music over the past year. Her rap style relies heavily on imagery, alliteration and a novel play on words. After local success with her song “Payphone” (over the Coffee instrumental by Medasin x Masego), she has continued to drop quality singles on her Soundcloud, collaborating with upcoming producers contrasting between a cute, pretty upbeat sound with mellow, Odd Future-esque sad-girl instrumentals.
JSMN is known in St. Louis for her very creative and killer aesthetic quality music videos. She collaborates with local aspiring film and music video producers Midzy & Remrod to create some of the best visuals in the area. Payphone, Llamas, and David are all standouts and have helped her attract a fanbase across the Midwest.
JSMN recently released her debut EP “A Very Sad Happy Birthday” on her 21st birthday. The 3-track EP provides a new sound for JSMN with happy production to contrast her sad laments about life. The production boasts a childlike innocence in sound, providing an accessible palette to JSMN’s off-kilter rhythmic lyrics. The EP is executively produced by Kansas City-based producer ‘namesake.’ who worked with JSMN to create a unique sound just for this project. Peep the project down below.
