Texas is known for breeding undeniable musical talent, from some of the biggest names in music to the hottest up-and-coming artists. Dallas’ very own Zay Johnny proves to live up to this reputation with his most recent release of “Ice.” This single perfectly encapsulates the sacrifices that go into a relationship and the possible repercussions of these efforts.
With a heavy Trap-Soul beat blended with smooth vocals and a captivating melody, Zay Johnny executes the most prominent aspects of R&B with this release. “Ice” pulls listeners in with not only an appealing hook but with the rawness in the lyrics; “Baby what did you want / What did you need / I gave up so much / Gave up everything.”
Prior to the release of “Ice,” Zay Johnny had only three songs out on streaming platforms, with his last release in October titled “Cameras On You.” His first ever release “Merry Me,” back in April, but don’t let the short catalog deceive you as he has catapulted into the R&B space and has gained recognition from many. Since “Merry Me,” Zay Johnny has been featured on Apple Music’s “New in R&B” and “Breaking in R&B” playlists, along with editorial placements on Pandora, Audiomack, and Spotify.
The Dallas native surpasses prior achievements with every release and continues to do so most authentically and enticingly. There is no ceiling on what Zay Johnny can accomplish this year, and we’ll be here to witness it all.
