Emerging out of the UK’s budding music scene is Downtown Kayoto. With a string of releases under his belt this year alone, singles like ‘Feels Like‘ and ‘Slide Like‘ have sure made him a promising act.
His latest offering, ‘Do Better,’ is a true testament to his artistry. At 3-minutes in streaming length, Kayoto’s vocals provide a textured soundscape with so much depth to it and his usual poignantly placed lyrics that never disappoint. Accompanied by a Lou Embalsado-directed video, Kayoto described the motif of the video as a movement. “When you go back to the song and the video, you can kind of tell that there is movement,” he said in an email to SL. “But in terms of references, I took a lot of inspiration from Childish Gambino.”
With a unique blend of soulful pop, rapping, and R&B, Kayoto stated that he still doesn’t think he’s found his sound yet. “I’m still going to experiment with sounds like alternative Rock, Punk, Rock N Roll, and Electronic. Don’t get too attached to the stuff and making at this point.” With two new singles and an EP on the way, Downtown Kayoto shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
