New York’s Jay Cinema is keeping his streak alive with another strong release, giving listeners a taste of what’s ahead on his upcoming project. Earlier this year, he dropped Be a Better Friend with producer chasay, showcasing the thoughtful, laid-back style that’s become his signature. This time, though, he’s switching things up, working with a range of producers instead of sticking to just one, something he hasn’t done for a solo project since 2022’s Out The Loop.
The first single, Get Over Yourself, pairs Cinema with New Jersey producer lilith. Over the smooth, lo-fi backdrop, Cinema sounds locked in, rapping with ease about his mindset and day-to-day life. His delivery feels sharper, his flow more natural—an obvious step forward for him. Alongside the single comes the b-side, Tis Why, produced by rising talent Mayre. While the main track leans lofi, Tis Why pulls from jazzier Hip-Hop textures, with Mayre crafting a rich, layered beat that gives Cinema plenty of space to work with.
With both tracks setting the stage, Jay Cinema shows he’s not just experimenting but leveling up. The blend of different sounds and producers hints at a project that won’t stay in one lane, while still carrying the reflective, grounded energy that defines his music. If Get Over Yourself and Tis Why are any indication, what’s coming next from Cinema is worth paying attention to.
