Diz’s artistry is the type to serve as an outlet and a voice for so many others going through the same things. Influenced by rappers like Earl Sweatshirt and MF DOOM and saxophonists like Lester Young and Braxton Cook, the Boston, MA-based rapper, producer, and saxophonist is carving a unique path for himself. With a reflective sound that makes each new release relatable for his listeners, Diz can capture moments of life and instill messages of hope and strength for better days.
With 11 songs lasting around 21 minutes, Diz’s new body of work, ‘ULTRA.VIOLET’, is a complete project with just enough music to keep you satisfied—but not too many tracks to distract you. The way Diz creates short stories through simplistic lyrics is amazing, and while the over-arching theme gets carried throughout, his natural knack for writing and composing shines bright. Each song on the project is unique in its own way, yet it still feels concise and well-thought-out in its entirety. Diz’s thoughts, perspectives, and experiences were all laid out to better understand him as an artist and person. From the high-energy ‘What?’ intro track to the Young Wabo-assisted ‘One Step Closer,’ the project is captivating from start to finish.
Speaking on the project, Diz had this to share: “I didn’t go into this project with a vision. I just needed to vent. There were a lot of changes going on in my life when I was writing it, so I was just overwhelmed, and I think that came through in the project. Not having a vision scared me though because I was worried about the cohesion, but I think it came out really nice.”
Amid an already impressive year for Diz, This is only the beginning for him, so you may as well hop on the bandwagon while you can. Check out the new project below.
