Maryland’s Matt McGhee is destined for greatness. Recently, the budding wordsmith dropped off his brand new album Everything Starts From Now. At 12-tracks in length, the body of work spans 30-minutes in streaming length. Throughout the album Matt has a sublime taste for beats, backed by his impressive ability to string depressive one-liners into contemplative tracks making each track transition to the next in a way that makes for a seamless listen.
It may not be a densely-produced album, but Matt continues his lyrical consistency and great delivery to make this an enjoyable album for what it is. It sounds very similar to his previous releases such as Maybe, but his sound still sounds fresh. The way Matt paints lyrical pictures is neither straightforward nor easy to decipher. But it doesn’t have to be easy – this is Hip Hop for thinking people. His cerebral lyrics are heavy, but humorous here and there at the same time.
The entire album is filled with pleasing, downtempo instrumentals that pair perfectly with the well-delivered and dense lyrical content. Stream the new album down below.
