Raleigh, North Carolina artist Newman has been on our radar since the release of his last project “24/7.” Since then, the Ten $teps Ahead co-founder has been hard at work elevating his craft with each new release. Following October’s “24/7” with Shifty Capone, Newman kicked off his The Last of Many series, which saw releases like “Cape Coast,” “Madrid Freestyle,” “The Remedy,” “777,” and his most recent “Relentless.”
Bringing something new with each release, “777” is easily Newman’s best offering to date. Newman flexes his lyrical prowess throughout the record as he delivers top-tier wordplay and head-bop-inducing rhyme schemes. On “777,” Newman shines as he delivers quotable line after line over Grammy Nominated Producer Ezreaux Damari’s infectious production. Accompanying the record is a stunning VHS-styled video directed by DaRemen J and Rory Sullivan. The special thing about the video is the fact the art is doing all the talking. Throughout the various scenes and personas Newman takes on in the video, each moment shows music fans that he’s more than ready for this next step. All of his work is culminating, and the result is beautiful. From the lyrics, flow, and beat selection—to visual choices, Newman’s artist brand is aligned and gaining steady traction.
“777” is an essential piece that adds to Newman’s growing discography of impressive records. Unlike many of his peers, the fast-rising artist has quickly grasped his sonic identity at an early stage of his career. “777” leans into what makes Newman’s sound so well-loved while simultaneously suggesting a newfound clarity in his complex lyrical growth.
