Hailing out of Cincinnati, OH, Wave Parker is inspired by legendary funk and soul musicians mixed with southern slab classics and west coast cruising hits. Bringing speaker knocking bangers with slick grooves, Wave’s music is all about lifestyle enhancement and taking care of yourself. The main thing Parker wants people to gain out of his music is to always bet on yourself even when the odds are severely stacked against you because even if you fail, you still succeed just because you tried.
His latest EP, ‘I’m Just Gettin’ Started, Love‘ is a 7-song offering that shows us exactly why he should be considered a promising act as the year nears an end. Spanning 22 minutes in streaming length, ‘I’m Just Gettin’ Started, Love‘ is a project with something for everyone. The EP kicks off with ‘Back in Bidness,’ a smooth cut filled with lyrical bars over a bouncy production that helps it tie all together. Much of the EP is approached with the same level of consistency, and Wave uses that to his advantage as he continues to build off a familiar sound. Songs like ‘Don’t Hate The Play‘ and ‘Just Gettin’ Started‘ help drive the EP’s sound home. The music is honest and assertive, free from the expectations of being playlisted or fitting into a specific genre. While allowing the listener ample room for interpretation, Wave does an excellent job of creating the experience. It’s a movement forward for Wave as an individual, as it is a movement forward for artists making music that speaks for itself.
